Essentially, it’s a visual way to store images of things you’ve found around the internet. Think of it as the love child of Delicious and Instagram - social bookmarking meets a community of friendly yet compulsive image sharers.

I really like it.

However, its significance goes beyond my penchant for collecting pictures of hairstyles I’m not brave enough to get or small dogs I can’t get yet - retailers are reporting that it’s referring more traffic than YouTube, Google +, LinkedIn combined... Hence the influx of marketing types.

And here is where my description stops, because the most comprehensive thing I’ve read about Pinterest has already been written by Mike Litman. Intrigued by Pinterest, for business or pleasure? Read this:

Happy pinning!

101 examples of Social Business ROI

101 examples of Social Business ROI:
Ah, sweet ROI… a favourite topic in new client meetings. Well, here’s 101 indicators of return on investment from (mainly) the US and UK. Not all are monetary ROI, but some nice examples include:

Sephora. Community users spend 2.5x more than average customers, superfans spend 10x more. (Lithium Technologies, 2011)

Mint. 75% reduction in number of support tickets via sCRM solution. (GetSatisfaction, unkn)

Jewelry TV. Average order value increased 25% when reviews were present (ratings and reviews). (Bazaarvoice, 2011)

Electronic Arts. EA was 2nd UK brand to use promoted tweets and trends to promote FIFA 12 video game. Trend engagement level was 11%, well above Twitter’s average ‘benchmark’ for trends, of 3% to 6%. Promoted tweet engagement averaged 8.3% over two-week campaign vs. Twitter benchmark of 1.5%. (Marketing Magazine, 2011)

Domino’s Pizza. Foursquare drove 29% pre-tax profit through promotions. (Barnraisers, 2010)

Hello 2012… I am now freelance!
After 8 years of working...

Hello 2012… I am now freelance!

After 8 years of working online I’ve finally decided to take the freelance plunge. I actually did this at the end of 2011, but what with my first contract (at McCann London), spending 267 hours on the phone to HMRC and the obligatory festive food-induced comas, I sort of forgot to… er, tell anyone. But now, hear me loud: I AM OPEN FOR BUSINESS!

So what do I do, exactly?

Having worked in social media, PR, advertising and digital production for agencies, brands and broadcasters, I’m a safe pair of hands for almost any online project.

Specifically, you might want to hire me for:

Social media, content and/or online PR strategy

Digital production or social campaign project management

Creative development

New business (pitching, setting up new retained accounts)

Copywriting

Extended research projects

Social media training

Am I free right now?

Yes and no. I’m working with an exciting restaurant brand (that I can’t tell you about just yet) 2 days a week until March, but I am all ears if you want dibs on my other 3 days (or evenings/weekends). If in doubt about whether I’m free or not, get in touch.

What’s that - you want to hire me?

Great news! If you want to find out more about my experience, then head over to my LinkedIn profile. If you’ve got an upcoming project or would like to see my full CV, get in touch. And if you think I sound like a handy person to know but don’t have any work right now, perhaps you just want to head over to Twitter to say hi.

… AND you know of someone who might want to hire me?!

Amazing. Feel free to hook us up on Twitter or intro me on email . I’ll send a bottle of wine to anyone who introduces me to new work.

Happy new year folks, it’s shaping up to be a pretty exciting one so far…
